New Clyo Community Center and Park officially opens in Effingham Co. — Savannah Sports news

EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - Effingham County officially cut the ribbon on major upgrades to the Clyo Community Center and Park on Saturday.Leaders said it will give families a new place to gather and exercise and honor a hometown veteran. It was made possible through SPLOST funding. It has undergone a full makeover, adding a walking trail, basketball hoops, and ball fields.During Saturday’s ceremony, officials and members of the local VFW came together to dedicate a permanent plaque honoring hometown veteran Frankie Young, Jr. “It’s a beautiful way to honor his memory, where children go and play. But we’ve been having the family reunion here for 29 years. We missed it this year for one simple reason: they were redoing the building,” said Frankie Young, Jr.’s sister, Altena Garvin. She said her family is already looking forward to returning to the Clyo Community Center next July to celebrate their milestone 30th annual reunion.
