SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Veterans Council of Chatham County selected Joe Higgins as Veteran of the Year.Higgins recognized by commissionersThe council represents 28 veteran organizations. Chatham County commissioners recognized Higgins during Friday’s meeting as they honored the grand marshals for next week’s Veterans Day parade. The council said Higgins will be highlighted separately in the parade.“If there’s a Veteran out there and they’re not connected, please come out and check it out. It is the greatest thing that happened to me once I got out of the military, is finding that home that I lost when I got out,” Higgins said.The council meets the first Monday of every month at American Legion Post 184 in Thunderbolt.80th Veterans Day ParadeThe council’s 80th Veterans Day Parade is Wednesday, Nov. 11.
