ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — The printout from Georgia voting machines will include a QR code this general election after lawmakers pushed back a deadline to stop using the codes to tabulate votes. The printout also shows voters’ selections in text. What Senate Bill 189 was supposed to change Georgia lawmakers passed Senate Bill 189 in 2024 to change how ballots are counted. The provision on counting ballots was supposed to take effect July 1, 2026. Section 7 of Senate Bill 189, in part, aimed to end the use of QR codes for tabulating votes. The printed text of a voter’s selections would be used instead for vote counts, recounts and audits. Why the change was delayed Lawmakers left their regular session this spring without passing a replacement for the QR code method, which led to a special session in June. During the special session, lawmakers passed Senate Bill 3EX, which Gov. Brian Kemp signed. It moved the effective date of the provision to Jan. 1, 2028. Full election day co
